Two university students alleged that our client broke-in to their suite and robbed them as part of a set-up orchestrated by a female escort they had hired.
At trial, we highlighted the witnesses' numerous inconsistencies. Because of this, the judge held that the students were not credible and acquitted our client of B&E and robbery with a firearm.
Our client fell asleep at the wheel tragically striking two pedestrians. At the hospital, the police guided him to a room where a drug recognition officer evaluated him.
At trial, the judge concluded our client had been detained during that process and was denied his right to a lawyer. The judge refused to consider the drug evaluator's evidence.
Our client was legally licensed to own firearms. When some of them went missing, police assumed the worst and charged our client with firearms trafficking.
We fought this over 5 days of trial, culminating in the charges being dropped.
Our client pled guilty to driving while prohibited.
At sentencing, the Crown emphasized his history of repeatedly driving while prohibited. We explained his side of the story and stressed his mitigating circumstances.
Although the Crown's original position was for jail time, our client was sentenced to a high fine with no probation and no jail.
Our client was charged with possessing a weapon, namely an imitation firearm, bear spray, a flare gun, and an arrow gun, for a purpose dangerous to the public peace.
Ahead of trial, we negotiated this charge down to a peace bond with a standalone weapons forfeiture order. Because of this, our client came out of it with no criminal conviction.
Our client pled guilty to defrauding her employer of more than $300,000.
At sentencing, we argued that jail was too harsh of a sentence, given the gambling addiction at play. The judge agreed, and our client received a conditional sentence order followed by probation.
